WiMAX

Clearwire’s WiMAX network has been launched in dozens of centers across the nation, offering businesses and consumers alike the benefits of vastly improved bandwidth and speed over current commercial cellular networks. The Clear WiMAX network is being sold by Sprint, Clearwire, and other resellers. WiMAX opens up a whole new world of applications that, while designed for a “static” environment, can now be successfully deployed in a mobile setting. Applications like video and voice have always been a challenge over wireless networks because of inconsistent connections and latency. But with WiMAX, these issues have been largely resolved.

onBoard Mobile Gateway is 4G-Ready!

Create a mobile hotspot in and around vehicles

In Motion’s onBoard Mobile Gateway (oMG) can be deployed in your fleet vehicles to create a mobile hotspot in and around the vehicle, connecting all your wired and wireless devices. The oMG enables you to put up to 6 network cards, including WiMAX and private cellular (700MHz) and connect to these new networks – seamlessly and securely.

Multi-Network Operations

With the flexibility to have multiple networks, the oMG seamlessly and securely selects the best network available for your applications. For multi-network applications, you can specify policies to determine which network is used for each application, ensuring that your video doesn’t get transmitted over 3G, unless you want it to.

Depot Wi-Fi Communications

At the depot, the oMG can connect to a Wi-Fi access point, ensuring end-to-end capacity and security. When vehicles are outside the WiMAX “footprint”, the oMG takes care of switching the traffic to available cellular networks – with no need for user intervention.

Get alerts to avoid surcharges for bandwidth overages

LTE will likely bring new pricing schema that will be based on usage. The onBoard Mobile Gateway can monitor usage of each network, and alert you when you’re nearing your monthly limit.

“Make before break”

The oMG can transfer the connection to a new network before the current connection fails.

Fallback to 3G outside the 4G Footprint

As with any new network, deployment of 4G will happen in phases, beginning with densely populated urban areas, which means that there will be lots of coverage gaps.  When vehicles are outside the LTE “footprint”, the oMG takes care of switching the traffic to available cellular networks – with no need for user intervention. The typical WiMAX deployment includes separate 3G and 4G cards. So don’t wait! If you’ve got mission critical applications that need 4G, you can confidently deploy them in your mobile environment today using the onBoard Mobile Gateway!
