In Motion Technology and SnowBus to Provide Passenger Internet During 2010 Winter Games

Shuttle buses to Whistler will keep passengers connected with innovative, Vancouver-bred technology

Vancouver, BC, and Seattle, WA February 11, 2010 - Vancouver-based In Motion Technology, the leader in mobile networking technologies that efficiently connect and manage equipment, information and people in the field, today announced that it will provide free wireless Internet access to passengers traveling on the “SnowBus” shuttle between Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia, for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Using a service provided by In Motion, SnowBus and Bell Canada, passengers will be able to send email, file stories and surf the web as they travel between the Olympic host city and events taking place at Whistler Mountain, about 75 miles away.

“As a premium transportation provider, we’re constantly looking for ways to improve our services. Our partnership with In Motion Technology will allow visitors to keep moving and stay connected during the ride to see their favorite Olympic events,” said Darren Berg, CEO of SnowBus’ parent company MTR Western. “Onboard wireless service is just one way we’re working to make sure that fans can have the Olympic experience of a lifetime.”

SnowBuses making five daily round trips will be equipped with In Motion’s onBoard Mobile Gateway. At the heart of the Gateway is the company’s patented mobile wireless hot spot technology, which provides reliable, secure connectivity for laptops, PDAs, iPhones and a variety of other devices. The integrated GPS capability will enable SnowBus management and passengers to track the location of buses at any time. Live video will also be streamed from the buses during the games.

Transit agencies across North America are deploying the onBoard Mobile Gateway to keep passengers connected and build a communications platform that will support the latest fleet and network management technologies. Gateways can be equipped to roam across several networks to achieve unmatched communications reliability. A comprehensive suite of management software also enables agencies to manage and monitor mobile networks.

“We’re delighted to be able to work with SnowBus to provide this service. Today, people demand constant access to information, and Olympic fans are no exception,” said Kirk Moir, COO of In Motion Technology. “Staying connected on the SnowBus will allow visitors to share their experiences in real-time with friends and family around the world. We are honored to showcase this innovative, Vancouver-bred technology on a world stage during the Games with a leading transportation provider.”
