IN MOTION TECHNOLOGY RECEIVES PRODUCT INNOVATION RECOGNITION BY FROST & SULLIVAN FOR ITS ORIGINAL ONBOARD MOBILE GATEWAY 1000
Palo Alto, Calif. - November 25, 2005 - Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis of U.S. Markets for First Responders, selected In Motion Technology for the 2005 Product Innovation of the Year for its flagship product, onBoardTM Mobile Gateway 1000. This device is a combined networking and applications appliance for vehicles that seamlessly connects multiple devices within the vehicle and enables them to share a robust, secure wireless wide area network (WAN) connection.
In Motion Technology is a leader in developing innovative solutions for the mobile Local Area Networks
(mLANs) that help enterprises and government agencies extend their IT infrastructure to critical mobile
workgroups. With mounting homeland security concerns, these agencies are looking for robust, secure, and
cost-effective wireless solutions for collecting, co-ordinating, and disseminating sensitive information.
Since conventional wireless remote access solutions are device-oriented, it complicates the deployment of mobile applications by tightly coupling each application/device with the underlying wireless WAN.
"In contrast, In Motion Technology's mLAN approach simplifies implementation by consolidating the wireless
WAN connectivity and security functions for all devices deployed in and around a vehicle within the onBoardTM
Mobile Gateway 1000," says Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Steve Tobin. "Its integrated LAN, both WiFi and
Ethernet, makes it easy for standard devices to take advantage of advanced 3G wireless technology."
Other features include USB and serial connectors for linking legacy/non-IP devices and a full featured
application platform with multi-gig storage capacity to ensure field crews can collect and access local
information from the secure oMG platform rather than storing that information on their mobile computers.
Regardless of the increased federal and state funding, public safety groups are still looking to install low-cost
solutions, which is the perfect market setting for the onBoardTM Mobile Gateway 1000. This device reduces the
total cost of ownership by aggregating WAN connectivity across one or more wireless networks and by
eliminating the need to upgrade or replace the device to make it compatible with wireless WAN technology.
Moreover, In Motion Technology also provides extensive centralized management capabilities through a web-based management system. This system enables IT departments to monitor and configure their onBoardTM
Mobile Gateway 1000 fleet over-the-air, cutting down on expensive and unproductive trips to the fleet garage.
"With its sound technology and partnerships, In Motion Technology offers customers a unique product that
creates mobile broadband networks," notes Tobin. "Such networks are reliable and maintain constant workflow
as well as data retrieval and storage capabilities for the public safety user."
Each year this Award is presented to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and
technologies within their industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of
emerging products and technologies.
