EMS

In Motion Technology has taken an innovative approach to designing and developing a future-proof mobile communications system for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Health care professionals need a communications solution that provides access for multiple devices and applications, in a multi-network environment. Employees are using a myriad of communications devices and applications, and being able to communicate while “in motion” is often a matter of life and death.

Until now, EMS providers have purchased cell phones, PDAs or modems to address their communications requirements. These provide a short term solution for individual devices or applications communicating over a single network. As the number of devices and applications increase, EMS teams recognize that no network provides complete coverage, and a new approach is needed. By leveraging standards-based networking technology to provide a more effective approach to mobile broadband networking, the onBoard Vehicle Area Network provides a secure, reliable and cost effective communications platform for workers In Motion!

For EMS organizations, In Motion Technology transforms emergency operations to reduce costs and response times and improve patient care.

Reduces Communications Costs

The Gateway creates a secure, mobile hotspot, enabling multiple on-board wired and wireless devices – including medical equipment, patient care recording, inventory tracking systems, dispatch and video – to connect seamlessly and communicate reliably with area hospitals, operations and other first responders. By allowing multiple data devices in a vehicle or at an incident scene to share a single network connection, the Gateway can reduce communications costs. Using just two in-vehicle devices to transmit data over a Gateway can save up to $720 per year in airtime alone. The Gateway can also be programmed to allow time sensitive data to travel over the cellular network, and high-bandwidth — but lower priority — data over less expensive station Wi-Fi networks to reduce airtime costs. Flexible architecture enables easy updates to the latest wireless networks while protecting your investment in onboard devices and applications.

Improves Response Times

By analyzing real-time and archived GPS information, the Gateway provides information to enable dispatching and routing with unmatched precision. This enables organizations to pre-position vehicles, reduce response times, improve service to the community and avoid costly penalties.

Improves Patient Outcomes

A Gateway-equipped ambulance can send vital ECG and other patient information to hospitals prior to the patient’s arrival, expediting critical treatment and improving patient outcomes.
