Future proof technology prepares agency for new applications and networks, including 4G
Boynton Beach, FL and Vancouver, BC, Canada, June 16, 2010 – In Motion Technology, the leader in mobile networking technologies that efficiently connect and manage equipment, information and people in the field today announced that the Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department has deployed onBoard Mobile Gateways across its fleet of fire, rescue and command vehicles.
“Before the installation of the Gateways, Boynton Beach crews were using map books for routing which was a time consuming and cumbersome process for response teams,” recalls Barkley Garnsey, communications specialist at Boynton Beach Fire Rescue. “Now, utilizing In Motion’s onBoard Mobile Gateway, they are able to tap into the most up-to-date GPS information and get vehicles to an incident scene faster than ever before.”
“Before we installed the Gateway, we tested laptops with air cards,” said Garnsey. “We quickly realized that this was unreliable. Every 24 hours, our wireless provider would kick us off the network, and we would have to re-initiate the connection. With the Gateway, we are assured a reliable connection and our rescue personnel are able to focus on saving lives instead of struggling with technology.”
Because the Gateway is easily upgradeable, once higher bandwidth carrier networks are rolled out, Boynton Beach Fire will be able to stream real time video from incident scenes and implement other technologies to improve operations and responses by simply adding new cards to the Gateway.
Boynton Beach Fire Rescue obtained the onBoard Mobile Gateways through a federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant. AFG grants are awarded each year to help firefighters and emergency response teams meet their equipment and communications needs.
