Multi-network solution extends office technology to mobile city workers

Newberry, SC and Vancouver, BC, February 21, 2012 – In Motion Technology, the leader in flexible, secure and enduring mobile communications systems that improve organization’s ability to communicate on the move, announced today that the City of Newberry, SC is implementing the onBoard™ System to leverage public and private network infrastructure for a city-wide VoIP system that will improve response to citizen requests.

The City of Newberry over the past ten years has invested over 20 million in infrastructure and utility upgrades to provide residents and businesses with the very best services. Newberry operates a wireless mesh network and VoIP system to support the Police and Fire, Public Works, Utility, Parks, Recreation & Tourism Departments. The City of Newberry is working to maximize network performance and coverage by using multiple network technologies – 3G, 4.9GHz and 2.4GHz.

With the mesh network deployed across the city, city leaders wanted to enable city workers to have an office in their vehicles. Before deploying the onBoard System, city workers had to be near an access point or return to the office to download information and complete reports Without access to multiple networks and fast switching, VoIP could not have been extended to mobile workers.

“We looked at other solutions which were more expensive and took hours to configure and implement, and In Motion Technology has proven to be a committed partner in our success,” said Marc Regier, Information Services Director, City of Newberry, South Carolina. “The onBoard system will help us be more responsive to the needs of our citizens and it will help us improve our productivity across all departments.”

The onBoard System is a secure, manageable mobile communications system which creates a Vehicle Area Network, designed to support broadband applications in a mobile environment. The system enables real-time and bulk data transfers, and transports data for video, voice, vehicle location, mobile office and vehicle health monitoring. It provides multiple device connectivity, end to end security, support for multiple networks and mobility management.

The onBoard Mobile Gateway turns vehicles into mobile wireless hotspots, connecting tablets, handhelds, laptops, bar-code readers, and video cameras in and around the vehicle over any wireless network. The onBoard Mobility Manager is a powerful network management system that allows operations to manage and monitor the health of the vehicle fleet – including remote configuration, network coverage, and vehicle diagnostic data. The onBoard Connection Manager is a mobile-optimized VPN server, providing IP mobility and sub-second switching in a multi-network environment designed to work with the mobile gateway and network management system. This complete system provides the fastest, simplest, and most cost-effective way to extend the enterprise network to the vehicle fleet.

“We’re pleased to be working with the City of Newberry, where technology leadership is evident in the city’s infrastructure, and enables leaders to be innovative in their approach to public service,” said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology’s vice president of sales and marketing.

Vancouver, BC, January 24, 2012 – In Motion Technology, the leader in flexible, secure and enduring wireless systems that improve organization’s ability to communicate on the move, announced today that General Dynamics Itronix has signed a reseller agreement to supply In Motion’s highly resilient, rugged and integrated mobile communications solution for mobile workers in a vehicle environment. Through this reseller agreement organizations will be able to purchase the complete mobile computing and communications solution from General Dynamics Itronix. Rather than having separate systems or mobile devices operate using their own cellular data plans, organizations can connect mobile workers to and from the enterprise through a single, secure, shareable, in-vehicle broadband connection, enabling improved productivity for users and reducing wireless communications costs for organizations.

General Dynamics Itronix offers a suite of fully rugged and semi-rugged notebooks, tablet PCs and ultra-mobile devices that deliver fast, reliable, power-efficient computing for mobile professionals. Designed to perform in punishing field conditions that can include drops, shock, vibration, extreme heat and cold, computers by General Dynamics Itronix also have an Ingress Protection (IP) 65 rating, which ensures that the unit is sealed against dust and water.

“Adding In Motion Technology’s mobile communications solution to the General Dynamics Itronix product portfolio gives our customers an innovative new option for providing mobile workers with the secure and reliable connectivity they require,” said Doug Petteway, vice president of Marketing for General Dynamics Itronix.

In Motion Technology’s onBoard™ system turns utility vehicles into secure, manageable, multi-network mobile hotspots that provides connectivity for all in-vehicle applications and computing devices. It provides mobile workers with seamless and secure access to corporate applications over the best available wireless broadband network (including Wi-Fi, private and commercial 4G LTE or 3G cellular, public safety 700MHz, municipal mesh, private radio networks and satellite). The onBoard Mobile Gateway turns vehicles into mobile wireless hotspots, connecting tablets, handhelds, laptops, bar-code readers, and video cameras in and around the vehicle over any wireless network. The onBoard Mobility Manager is a powerful network management system that allows operations to manage and monitor the health of the vehicle fleet – including remote configuration, network coverage, and vehicle diagnostic data for heavy and light duty utility trucks.

“In Motion Technology is excited to be able to have General Dynamics Itronix as a reseller and provide complete vehicle-rugged solutions that help organizations gain real-time situational awareness of the vehicles and mobile workers that are critical to their business operations,” said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology’s vp of sales and marketing. “Together, our solutions will allow our customers to lower the cost of connecting its mobile fleet to the enterprise while improving worker productivity.”

System Status Management ensure the Right Response at the Right Time

Wichita, KS, Vancouver, BC, and Aiken, SC, October 12, 2011 – In Motion Technology and Bradshaw Consulting Services, Inc. today announced that Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Service has deployed the onBoard™ Mobile Gateway and MARVLIS™ (Mobile Area Routing and Vehicle Location Information System)to improve communications and increase efficiency in its emergency dispatch, routing, and operations, improving response times and patient outcomes.

Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Service is the primary agency in Sedgwick County responsible for Advanced Life Support out-of-hospital care and transportation of area residents. In 2010, Sedgwick County EMS responded to 52,815 calls for service and is a regional Basic Life Support Training Center for the American Heart Association.

Scott Hadley, EMS Director, Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Service, said, “We needed a communications platform and software solution that would support our latest enhancements and upgrades to dispatch and deployment practices, automated scheduling, and patient care reporting for the entire health care system. In Motion Technology and Bradshaw Consulting Services are providing us with the tools we needed to support our mobile healthcare technology to benefit the citizens of Sedgwick County.”

MARVLIS provides the ability for EMS agencies to execute dynamic System Status Management – the practice of extrapolating, based on past calls, the likelihood and location of future calls for help. With this knowledge in hand, EMS agencies can position ambulances in areas where these calls are most likely to occur, reducing total response times and ultimately improving patient outcomes. The onBoard Mobile Gateway, besides providing secure and reliable communications for ECGs, patient care reports, and other on-board devices, plays a critical role in dispatch and vehicle location, because if communications are not reliable, dispatch information cannot be shared with crews as needed.

Bradshaw Consulting Services, Inc., is a market leading provider of unique software solutions that help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local public safety agencies with Geographic Information Systems (“GIS”), enhances Sedgwick County EMS’ dispatch and deployment with the Mobile Area Routing & Vehicle Location Information System (MARVLIS™). MARVLIS is bringing fundamental changes to the management and deployment of time sensitive services such as intelligent routing, live geographical display of current resources, and on-demand innovative analysis. MARVLIS is a family of integrated products designed to reach the bottom line: saving time by getting the right resources to the right location at the right time to best meet Sedgwick County EMS needs.

“Sedgwick County EMS is recognized for its dedication to health care innovations and In Motion Technology is pleased to have been selected as their partner for mobile networking and emergency communications,” said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology’s vice president of sales and marketing.

Tony Bradshaw, President, Bradshaw Consulting Services, Inc., said “We are privileged to be a part of Sedgwick County EMS’ team to provide the most accurate deployment strategies and emergency routing for the citizens of Sedgwick County.”

State-wide trauma network will enable optimum trauma patient/hospital matching in emergencies

Vancouver, BC, Canada, September 20, 2011 – In Motion Technology, the leader in mobile networking technologies that efficiently connect and manage equipment, information and people in the field, announced today that it has been awarded a state-wide contract for an Automatic Vehicle Location System (AVLS) for the trauma care network for Georgia. Phase 1 implementation is now complete, and it is expected that Phase 2 initial deployment will be completed by September 30, 2011.

The Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission (GTCNC), the Georgia Emergency Management Agency / Homeland Security (GEMA/HS), and the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) are developing a state-wide AVLS to provide a display of ambulance positions and to advise EMS agencies and hospitals of the closest appropriate facility to transport or transfer patients, specifically in a state of emergency or a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI). The challenge is to integrate over 200 existing EMS agencies each with their own independent communications technology. One of the goals of the program is to implement AVLS to all primary 911 Zone Providers, in order to provide the citizens of Georgia with a powerful trauma and mass casualty incident management system including an advanced telemedicine technology infrastructure.

During the initial pilot phase of this contract, the GTCNC purchased 200 Mobile Gateways for Georgia EMS Regions 5 and 6. The Gateways had to integrate with the GEMA/HS Geographic Tool for Visualization & Collaboration (GTVC), a geographic information system used for managing resources during responses to emergencies and homeland security incidents developed by GTRI.

”With our partners, GTRI and In Motion Technology, we will be able to provide the Georgia state-wide AVLS to better coordinate response actions in crisis situations”, said Dennis W. Ashley, MD, FACS, FCCM, chair, Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission (GTCNC). “The network communications platform is an essential component of Georgia’s trauma system regionalization and will produce the highest possible value for Georgians’ investment in trauma care.”

In Motion Technology’s onBoard™ Mobile Gateway turns ambulances into wireless hotspots, providing seamless, secure connectivity to laptops, EKG/ECGs, RFID tags, vehicle diagnostic systems and advanced GPS/AVL systems. The onBoard™ Mobility Manager provides each EMS agency and command center with the ability to analyze information from Gateways in the field via a dashboard which shows ambulance locations, and monitors vehicle diagnostics, devices and networks.

“We needed a communications platform that would complement the existing communications and dispatch networks at over 200 agencies across the state,” said Kirk Pennywitt, senior research engineer at GTRI. “The challenge was effectively connecting multiple agencies with a single platform that could also accommodate future technologies and applications.”

Now in the second phase of this program, GEMA/HS has secured federal grant funds for an additional 200-400 Gateways. In Motion Technology’s solution enables improved resource deployment, vehicle management, dispatch, messaging and operations for each EMS agency and provides GTCNC & GEMA/HS designated Command Centers with a clearer picture of EMS operations for emergency response.

In the future, the telecommunications platform provided under the AVLS program offers the potential to extend the capabilities of the hospital’s emergency care center to the injury scene to improve triage, stabilization and transfer/transport of trauma patients. Emergency cardiac and stroke cases can be more efficiently addressed with early analysis of ECGs, video and patient care records by cardiologists and catheterization labs. The third phase of this program will begin in late 2011 or early 2012 with the goal of having more than 90% of eligible ambulances in the state of Georgia as part of the AVLS program.

“In Motion Technology is excited to be a part of this visionary state-wide initiative for the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission and Georgia Tech Research Institute,” said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We are pleased that In Motion Technology has been able to provide a unified communications platform solution for the trauma commission that will improve overall trauma care for the citizens of Georgia.”
