onBoard Mobile Gateway only product demonstrated that switches traffic between multiple cellular WANs and FirstNet Band 14 Network

Vancouver, BC – May 9, 2013. In Motion Technology announced today that its in-vehicle router – the onBoard Mobile Gateway (oMG), was successfully evaluated at the Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) program at the U.S. Department of Commerce Boulder Laboratories in Colorado. During evaluation, the oMG demonstrated seamless switching of traffic across multiple test networks. Completion of official testing will demonstrate that the oMG is capable of similar seamless switching across multiple commercial carrier LTE networks and the FirstNet Band Class 14 public safety network.

The oMG is unique among user devices tested in this phase. It can utilize both AT&T and Verizon 4G LTE networks in conjunction with the FirstNet network infrastructure under test and provide both a Wi-Fi hotspot and Wi-Fi backhaul for use at stations and depots, giving public safety unprecedented access to all available forms of WAN interconnection. The onBoard Mobility Manager (oMM) was also demonstrated; oMM provides comprehensive intelligence for fleet managers, IT and operations about a fleet of public safety vehicles.

“What this means for public safety agencies is that they can confidently move forward with plans and projects to leverage 4G LTE and Wi-Fi networks today, and then simply add FirstNet data radios to their gateways once the 700MHz Band 14 network is available in their areas”, said Tony Morris, Vice President, Sales and Marketing at In Motion Technology. “Public safety agencies have been monitoring FirstNet’s activities closely to gauge the implications that FirstNet will have on their current environments. Our system offers a secure mobile hotspot and access to the plethora of LTE networks, protecting investments already made in legacy devices.”

Seven jurisdictions are moving ahead with initial deployments, and last week the FirstNet board cleared the way for BTOP grant funding to be reinstated to assist in their efforts.

The onBoard system includes an in-vehicle gateway (oMG), a back-office management system (oMM), and seamless security both in the vehicle area network, and across all wide area networks (oCM) including FirstNet spectrum.

“In the next phase of testing at the PSCR lab, we will demonstrate how our onBoard Connection Manager (oCM) provides fast switching and security across multiple WANs, including the FirstNet network. Together with the oMG and oMM, the oCM enables agencies to comply with CJIS security policies, including FIPS 140-2 without the need for client software on every device”, added Morris.

The PSCR program is a joint effort of two U.S. Department of Commerce agencies, the Law Enforcement Standards Office (OLES) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS) of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). PSCR provides objective technical support—research, development, testing and evaluation—to foster public safety communications interoperability. In close collaboration with private sector and public safety partners, PSCR has built a demonstration test bed for manufacturers, carriers, and public safety agencies to evaluate advanced broadband communications equipment and software for the future FirstNet 700 MHz interoperable public safety broadband network.

Vancouver, BC, – In Motion Technology, the leader in mobile enterprise networks, today announced an agreement with PCS Mobile to distribute the company’s award-winning communications system.

New system will enable doctors to monitor vital signs, diagnose conditions, and direct care before patients arrive at ER

Scottsville, VA – In Motion Technology, the leader in mobile enterprise networks, today announced that Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad has deployed the onBoard system which is allowing medics to send critical patient information from the road or incident scene well in advance to the ER, a move expected to dramatically improve patient care in Albemarle County.

In Motion Technology creates reliable, secure, high bandwidth connections between Scottsville ambulances and area hospitals. Data from medical equipment, laptops, tablets and other on-board devices will be able to travel from the unit to the ER over wireless networks. In rural parts of the Albemarle where wireless coverage is spotty, data will be able to roam across networks, keeping medics in constant communications with hospital staff at critical times.

One of three volunteer EMS response teams in the county, Scottsville Volunteer Rescue has not had any reliable way to communicate patient vitals to hospital before they passed the city limits because of cellular network coverage.

“With the Gateway, embedded radios and external antennae, Scottsville Rescue can transmit this data at least 20 minutes in advance of their arrival at hospital so that physicians and staff know the condition and medical history of patients before we arrive at the ER,” said Jay Saren, Scottsville Rescue’s Network Administrator. “This allows everyone to make better patient care decisions faster than ever before.”

In addition to providing the highest levels of data reliability and security, In Motion’s system requires no user intervention, allowing medics to stay focused on patient care, and not on whether their communications are getting through. The equipment was partially funded by a grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia OEMS.

In a service area covering 300 square miles, calls can average 88 minutes from the time crews are dispatched to the time the patient is delivered to hospital. “Critical information can now move wirelessly between Scottsville Volunteer Rescue ambulances and other health care providers who together can use that information to save lives,” said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology VP of Sales and Marketing. “We are very proud to work with innovators like Scottsville Rescue in service to the patients they help every day.”

About Scottsville Volunteer Rescue

Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad (SVRS) was established in 1974 to provide EMS to the Scottsville, VA community. SVRS covers an area of approximately 300 square miles south of Charlottesville VA. Today, SVRS has grown into a 60 member organization with state-of-the-art rescue and extrication equipment to serve the Scottsville area. All of SVRS personnel are trained and certified by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. For more information, please contact Jay Saren at jsaren@svrs.org or visit www.svrs.org.

“With the Gateway, hospital physicians and staff will know the condition and medical history of our patients before we arrive at the ER,” said Nashua Alexander, Wilton EMS Chief of Operations. “This allows everyone to make better patient care decisions faster than ever before.”

In addition to providing the highest levels of data reliability and security, In Motion’s system requires no user intervention, allowing medics to stay focused on patient care, and not on whether their communications are getting through. It will also provide operations and fleet managers with powerful new tools to monitor, track and manage their vehicles, devices, inventory and personnel.

In a service area covering 36 square miles, Wilton EMS responds to approximately 1,800 emergency calls each year, with a paid and volunteer staff of 54 paramedics. Wilton will integrate In Motion’s end-to-end system with ZOLL RescueNet Link service, which seamlessly shares information from electrocardiograms (ECGs), electronic patient care reporting programs, navigation and dispatch systems.

“Critical information will move wirelessly between Wilton ambulances and other health care providers who together can use that information to save lives,” said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology VP of Sales and Marketing. “We are very proud to deploy this technology on behalf of the medical professionals in Wilton and the patients they serve every day.”

New technology brings reliable, secure connectivity and cutting edge technology to ambulances

Clarksburg, WV – In Motion Technology, the leader in mobile enterprise networks, announced today that Harrison County EMS has integrated its onBoard system into its ALS and command vehicles. The system will allow Harrison County EMS to better manage its vehicles across the service area, and enable medics to provide state-of-the-art emergency medical services to patients in the field.

Over the years, Harrison County EMS had tried numerous networking and communications solutions ranging from radios to texting of ECG readouts while en route to hospital, all with little success. After finding In Motion Technology through Cabell County EMS, a neighboring EMS organization, Harrison County adopted In Motion Technology’s system for its 18-vehicle fleet, which serves 412 square miles across West Virginia and responds to 75% of ambulance calls in the county.

For the past year, Harrison County EMS has been working with United Hospital Center, part of the West Virginia University Health System, to improve patient care and response times. With a shortage of medics and an increasing demand for services, they face an uphill battle. Using In Motion Technology, Harrison County EMS will be able to more efficiently respond to emergency calls, decrease response times, share information utilizing mobile telemedicine, access patient records electronically and standardize billing processes.

“Everything we do, we do with the patient in mind,” said Richard B. Rock, Executive Director of Harrison County EMS. “When we learned about In Motion Technology’s onBoard system, we knew we could make great strides in improving patient care. We have used similar systems before, but they were unreliable or required regular, costly upgrades. With In Motion, we know we are getting the reliability we need to serve a large, rural area while at the same time gaining the flexibility to adopt cutting-edge applications like telemedicine.”

Harrison County EMS will use In Motion Technology in coordination with existing devices and applications including computer-aided dispatch, ECGs, and electronic patient care reporting.

“Harrison County EMS is a great example of how In Motion’s customers are easily integrating mobile enterprise networks with existing systems and devices,” said Tony Morris, Vice President Sales & Marketing at In Motion Technology. “At In Motion, we pride ourselves on providing a turnkey, future-proof system that works across multiple networks, devices and applications and securely connects mobile workers with the enterprise network. Harrison County EMS is leveraging this capability to provide comprehensive patient care.”

About Harrison County EMS
Harrison County EMS provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) to 85% of the citizens of Harrison County, which consists of a population of 68,000 in a geographical area of 416 square miles. Through mutual aid agreements, Harrison County EMS is responsible for providing medic assists to agencies providing emergency services in Doddridge, Harrison, Lewis, Marion, Taylor, Upshur and Wetzel counties.
