Secure reliable real-time information available enroute helps deliver the right response

Seattle, WA – In Motion Technology, the leader in mobile networking systems, announced today that the City of Seattle Fire Department has deployed the onBoard™ Mobile Networking System to improve Fire and EMS responses enroute and on-scene. The system allows Seattle Fire to leverage new voice, video and wireless data initiatives by providing secure, seamless fast switching in real-time between multiple networks. Seattle Firefighters and Paramedics are now better equipped for incident responses, pre-hospital emergency patient care and day-to-day operations.
The City of Seattle Fire Department provides fire suppression and emergency medical services, as well as building inspections, fire code enforcement, tactical rescues, public education and specialized units including the hazardous materials response team, dive team, confined space rescue, heavy rescue, and marine emergency response teams. The Seattle Fire Department responds to nearly 80,000 fire and medical incidents in the City of Seattle each year. The Seattle Fire Department’s Medic One Program provides the City of Seattle with Advanced Life Support activities and responds to approximately 45,000 Basic Life Support (BLS) alarms and 19,000 Advanced Life Support (ALS) alarms per year.

As part of Seattle’s city-wide public safety network, Seattle Fire needed the ability to:

centrally manage dispatch and emergency communications with multi-network and fast switching capability;

leverage new mobile technology with increased bandwidth for video and audio;

increase overall system security with 2 levels of device authentication, end-to-end VPN connection and data encryption;

remotely handle fleet-wide software and file updates to mobile data computers (MDC);

view in real-time pre-fire plans including building diagrams, bird’s eye views, hazardous materials, access and egress routes and fire control systems; and

transmit audio and EKG files and in mass casualty situations and the ability to transmit bar codes and medical triage codes to the emergency room before patients are transferred.

“We have deployed In Motion Technology’s mobile networking system to improve patient care and response times as part of our commitment to provide the citizens of Seattle the best emergency and medical services possible,” said Leonard Roberts, IT Director, City of Seattle Fire Department.

The onBoard Mobile Networking System provides Seattle Fire with a secure, manageable end-to-end communications system to extend the enterprise network to the vehicle fleet:

The onBoard Mobile Gateway turns Seattle Fire and EMS vehicles into mobile wireless hotspots or a wireless access points (WAP), connecting all wired and wireless devices in and around the vehicle over any wireless network with the ability to use multiple broadband networks.

The onBoard Mobility Manager is a powerful network management system that allows operations to manage and monitor the health of the Seattle Fire fleet including remote configuration, network coverage, vehicle diagnostic data, and fleet wide software updates and maintenance.

The onBoard Connection Manager is a mobile-optimized VPN server, providing secure IP mobility and sub-second switching in a multi-network environment designed to provide continuous connections and enable the use of real-time applications as vehicles roam between multiple wireless networks.

“With 33 fire stations and over 60 vehicles including fire engines, ladder trucks, and medic units, we needed to have the ability to remotely monitor vehicle health, location, network connections and to accurately monitor and manage all mobile computing devices which is only possible with In Motion Technology’s onBoard Mobile Gateway,” said Roberts.

“The City of Seattle Fire Department initiative of creating a centrally managed wireless technology management system to reduce duplication and increased security is a credit to their coordination with the other Seattle agencies and a true benefit to the community,” said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology’s vice president of sales and marketing.

###

About City of Seattle Fire Department
The Seattle Fire Department provides fire suppression and emergency medical services to a culturally diverse and vibrant population of Seattle. Since organized in 1894, the Fire Department has evolved from an organization focused only on fire fighting, to one that includes other critical services such as building inspections, fire code enforcement, tactical rescues and public education.

Multi-network solution extends office technology to mobile city workers

Newberry, SC and Vancouver, BC, February 21, 2012 – In Motion Technology, the leader in flexible, secure and enduring mobile communications systems that improve organization’s ability to communicate on the move, announced today that the City of Newberry, SC is implementing the onBoard™ System to leverage public and private network infrastructure for a city-wide VoIP system that will improve response to citizen requests.

The City of Newberry over the past ten years has invested over 20 million in infrastructure and utility upgrades to provide residents and businesses with the very best services. Newberry operates a wireless mesh network and VoIP system to support the Police and Fire, Public Works, Utility, Parks, Recreation & Tourism Departments. The City of Newberry is working to maximize network performance and coverage by using multiple network technologies – 3G, 4.9GHz and 2.4GHz.

With the mesh network deployed across the city, city leaders wanted to enable city workers to have an office in their vehicles. Before deploying the onBoard System, city workers had to be near an access point or return to the office to download information and complete reports Without access to multiple networks and fast switching, VoIP could not have been extended to mobile workers.

Rugged computing solutions connected through a consolidated, secure mobile wireless communications platform lowers operating costs and enhances productivity for the mobile workforce

Vancouver, BC, January 24, 2012 – In Motion Technology, the leader in flexible, secure and enduring wireless systems that improve organization’s ability to communicate on the move, announced today that General Dynamics Itronix has signed a reseller agreement to supply In Motion’s highly resilient, rugged and integrated mobile communications solution for mobile workers in a vehicle environment. Through this reseller agreement organizations will be able to purchase the complete mobile computing and communications solution from General Dynamics Itronix. Rather than having separate systems or mobile devices operate using their own cellular data plans, organizations can connect mobile workers to and from the enterprise through a single, secure, shareable, in-vehicle broadband connection, enabling improved productivity for users and reducing wireless communications costs for organizations.

General Dynamics Itronix offers a suite of fully rugged and semi-rugged notebooks, tablet PCs and ultra-mobile devices that deliver fast, reliable, power-efficient computing for mobile professionals. Designed to perform in punishing field conditions that can include drops, shock, vibration, extreme heat and cold, computers by General Dynamics Itronix also have an Ingress Protection (IP) 65 rating, which ensures that the unit is sealed against dust and water.

“Adding In Motion Technology’s mobile communications solution to the General Dynamics Itronix product portfolio gives our customers an innovative new option for providing mobile workers with the secure and reliable connectivity they require,” said Doug Petteway, vice president of Marketing for General Dynamics Itronix.

In Motion Technology’s onBoard™ system turns utility vehicles into secure, manageable, multi-network mobile hotspots that provides connectivity for all in-vehicle applications and computing devices. It provides mobile workers with seamless and secure access to corporate applications over the best available wireless broadband network (including Wi-Fi, private and commercial 4G LTE or 3G cellular, public safety 700MHz, municipal mesh, private radio networks and satellite). The onBoard Mobile Gateway turns vehicles into mobile wireless hotspots, connecting tablets, handhelds, laptops, bar-code readers, and video cameras in and around the vehicle over any wireless network. The onBoard Mobility Manager is a powerful network management system that allows operations to manage and monitor the health of the vehicle fleet – including remote configuration, network coverage, and vehicle diagnostic data for heavy and light duty utility trucks. The onBoard Connection Manager is a mobile-optimized VPN server, providing IP mobility and sub-second switching in a multi-network environment designed to work with the mobile gateway and network management system. This complete system provides the fastest, simplest, and most cost-effective way to extend the enterprise network to the vehicle fleet.

“In Motion Technology is excited to be able to have General Dynamics Itronix as a reseller and provide complete vehicle-rugged solutions that help organizations gain real-time situational awareness of the vehicles and mobile workers that are critical to their business operations,” said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology’s vp of sales and marketing. “Together, our solutions will allow our customers to lower the cost of connecting its mobile fleet to the enterprise while improving worker productivity.”

Rowan County, NC and Vancouver, BC, November 23, 2011 – In Motion Technology, the leader in flexible, secure and enduring wireless systems that improve organization’s ability to communicate on the move, announced today that Rowan County’s Emergency Services, serving North Carolina residents, has deployed In Motion Technology’s onBoard™ system to manage advanced wireless communications in response to 911, manmade or natural disasters in the county.

Rowan County’s Emergency Services department is comprised of three divisions: Emergency Medical (EMS), Fire, and Emergency Management/Homeland Security, each providing unique and specialized levels of public safety services. The department is charged with coordinating emergency activities with the County’s Enhanced 9-1-1 Telecommunications Center, the Rowan County Rescue Squad, and with other public or private allied agencies providing emergency services within the county.

Frank Thomason, ENP, Chief of Emergency Services, says “in an emergency management response, we have been able to convert our incident command center into a mobile hotspot with the onBoard Mobile Gateway, allowing other emergency responders to share a Wi-Fi connection on-scene, as well as providing an invaluable back-up communications for our 911 center.”

In Motion Technology’s onBoard™ Mobile Gateway turns Rowan County emergency service vehicles into wireless hotspots, providing seamless, secure connectivity to laptops, tablets, EKG, Electronic Patient Care Reporting (EPCR), Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), GPS and vehicle diagnostic systems. The onBoard™ Mobility Manager provides Rowan County with the ability to analyze information from Gateways in the field via a dashboard which shows emergency medical vehicle locations, and monitors vehicle diagnostics, devices and networks. Equipped with the latest GPS technology, the Gateway allows county staff to know the precise location, direction and speed of vehicles at all times and dispatch the closest vehicle to the scene.

Rowan County’s Emergency Medical Service (EMS) division is a countywide paramedic level EMS organization and operates from six station locations in various geographic regions within the county.

“The onBoard Mobile Gateway has been instrumental for us to transmit 12-Lead EKGs directly to the emergency room’s cardiologist, lowering the time to activate the cath lab and saving critical minutes for this subset of patients,” said Lennie Cooper, Emergency Medical Services Division Chief.

“In Motion Technology is proud to provide Rowan County with the mobile communications platform to equip their emergency vehicles for emergency management responses”, said Tony Morris, In Motion Technology’s vice president of sales and marketing.
