John McEwen
John McEwen is a co-founder of Discovery Capital, and a Director of the BC Discovery Fund (VCC) Inc. He has worked with nearly 200 technology companies, and serves on several investee company boards. John spearheaded corporate finance initiatives for companies such as Sierra Wireless Inc. and Circon Systems Corp., accelerating their development by attracting key corporate and additional venture capital backing. He is well known in the B.C. technology community as past Operations Chair of the Vancouver Enterprise Forum. Prior to co-founding Discovery Capital, John worked with IBM Canada Ltd. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC.
Don Strohmeyer
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Don Strohmeyer has enjoyed a long and successful career in the telecommunications industry. Don spent 42 years working in a variety of roles at Southern Bell and later BellSouth, from customer service to network operations and marketing. In 1983, he was appointed Vice President of Marketing for BellSouth Services and in 1990, he assumed responsibility for Network Operations for the North Sector of Southern Bell. In 1998, Don was named Vice President for BellSouth Network Operations. After retiring from BellSouth he undertook a new challenge, becoming President & CEO of Applied Digital Access. He held this position until 2002, when the company was acquired by Dynatech Corporation. Mr. Strohmeyer currently resides in Florida.
Tanner Philp
Tanner is a Partner and CFO of Lions Capital, manager of BC Advantage Funds (VCC) Ltd. and Lions Liquidity Investment Fund/Limited Partnership. Tanner focuses on Lions Capital’s software, telecommunications and internet/new media investments. Tanner currently serves as a director or advisor of Conasys, RewardStream, Urodynamix Technologies (TSX-V: URO), Vigil Health Solutions (TSX-V: VGL), and Voice Mobility (TSX: VMY) and is an observer at Zeugma Systems. Tanner is a Chartered Accountant who worked previously at KPMG Vancouver and London (UK) where he specialized in providing assurance, consulting and corporate finance services to asset management and private equity firms. Tanner has a Bachelor of Business Administration concentrated in Finance from Simon Fraser University. In addition to his professional endeavours, Tanner is a seminar leader for New Ventures BC and BC Excels (a division of Life Sciences BC) where he teaches entrepreneurs how to raise money. In 2007 Tanner was awarded the Early Achievement Award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC.
Leonard Hordyk
As Chief Executive Officer, Leonard is responsible for the Company’s strategic direction and business operations.
Hordyk brings more than two decades of experience leading, financing and developing strategic partnerships to the In Motion Technology team. Prior to joining the Company, Hordyk was President and CEO of Vancouver based TIR Systems Ltd. where he led the company’s strategic, finance, and growth efforts to become one of the world’s leading innovators in next generation lighting systems. Prior to its listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange and eventual acquisition by Royal Philips Electronics in June 2007, Hordyk’s leadership enabled TIR to build a strong Intellectual Property portfolio, filing 187 patents and achieve exponential revenue growth.
Before joining TIR Systems, Hordyk held a number of senior management positions with Motorola's Wireless Data group, where he gained global experience and provided leadership for product development and systems, sales and marketing, business development and operations.
Hordyk is a graduate of Camosun College.
Kirk Moir
As President and Chief Operating Officer, Moir is responsible for the Company’s technology direction and product delivery.
Before co-founding In Motion Technology, Moir led business unit operations for the network management group of San Diego CA-based Applied Digital Access prior to ADA’s acquisition by Acterna, a global leader in telecom test and management products based in Washington DC. Prior to joining Applied Digital Access, Moir led technology and business development for the Special Service Networks (SSN) group of MPR Teltech, a noted innovator in telecommunications research and development.
Moir is a graduate of the University of Manitoba.
